Microsoft Releases Windows 11 24H2 Preview

Microsoft released the Windows 11 24H2 Preview update (Build 26100.712) on May 22 for members of the Windows Insider Program in Release Preview. Windows 11 Version 24H2 includes a host of new features such as support for HDR backgrounds, power-saving tools, Sudo for Windows, Windows kernel advancement with Rust remodeling, Wi-Fi 7 support, and more, Microsoft said in a press release. There are also improvements to existing features, such as the introduction of a scrollable Quick Settings view in the taskbar, the ability to create 7-zip and TAR compressed files in File Explorer, and improvements to Bluetooth low energy audio devices.

In addition, Microsoft has announced a timeline for the removal of legacy VBScript support. Starting with the Windows 11 24H2 update, which will be released later this year, support for VBScript will be available as one of its features on demand (FOD). The feature will come pre-installed in Windows 11 24H2 and will be turned on by default in the operating system. By 2027, FOD will no longer be enabled by default on Windows launched that year, and will need to be turned on manually by the user. Eventually, at some point after 2027, VBScript will be completely removed from future versions of Windows.

AMD Announces EPYC 4004 Processors

On May 22, AMD officially announced the EPYC 4004 family of server processors, designed for small and medium-sized businesses and hosted IT organizations to meet the needs of the entry-level server market. Based on the same architecture as the consumer-grade Riptide 7000 series, these processors are AMD’s first EPYC processors to feature a consumer-grade processor interface. the EPYC 4004 series processors offer up to 16 Zen 4 cores, up to 32 threads, and a maximum processor clock of 5.7 GHz. it supports dual-channel DDR5-5200 ECC memory up to 192GB, and offers up to 28GB of memory with a maximum of 28GB of memory. Spotify Launches Custom Exclusive Font Spotify Mix

Spotify, the music streaming platform, announced on May 22 that it has launched a new customized exclusive font, Spotify Mix, which is available in the App and on the web today and will be rolled out to all Spotify platforms in a few weeks. Rasmus Wängelin, Global Head of Brand Design at Spotify, describes the sans-serif typeface as combining classic and contemporary styles for a unique look. The typeface subtly incorporates the shape of sound waves to evoke a sense of rhythm. The combination of sharp corners and rounded curves gives the typeface a distinctive personality, typical of Spotify.

NVIDIA to Update its AI Chips

NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said in a recent earnings call that NVIDIA will introduce new AI chips every year. In addition to the accelerated pace of AI chip updates, NVIDIA will also accelerate the pace of updates for all other chips to keep up with this pace, including devices such as CPUs, GPUs, NICs, and switches. Leica Announces D-Lux 8 Digital Camera
